05-16-2016 HCSC MinutesMINUTES OF THE HEALTHY HILLS STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING May 16, 2016 Chino Hills Community Center, Banquet A and B 14250 Peyton Drive, Chino Hills CALL TO ORDER Acting Chair Peter Rogers called the Healthy Hills Steering Committee Meeting of the City of Chino Hills to order at 6:00 p.m. ROLL CALL: Acting Chair Rogers requested the committee secretary to call roll. PRESENT MEMBERS: PETER ROGERS KURT ALLAN CHIEF JEREMY AULT SUPRIYA BARROWS ROBERT GANNON BOB GOODWIN ALEX GREENE KAREN HAUGHEY GAIL JOHNSON TOM MACKESSY AL MATTA LAURA MONTAGUE MARGGIE ROYSTON ALEXANDRIA SANDEL BILL TAYLOR SAMRA VITHLANI MYRA ZHAN ABSENT MEMBERS: CYNTHIA MORAN VICKI FINKLESTEIN ABRAHAM HOVSEPIAN GARY LARSON JENNY MOTT LT. DAVE PHELPS KASEY POWDERLY DAVID STILWELL ALSO PRESENT: JESSICA GANDARA MARY JIMENEZ KELLY WITTE BONNIE DELEON HEALTHY HILLS STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING May 16, 2016 Page 2 PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Led by Alexandria Sandel. PRESENTATIONS Kevin Pascual, Prep Life owner provided sample food for meal planning. Pascual vision is to inspire healthy living with eating correctly. He distributed menu options for the committee. Breann De Santiago, Randall Lewis Health Policy Fellow presented on her Program Conclusion. De Santiago distributed a flyer, which had the Cities facts, population facts, race face, and information about the Healthy Hills Steering Committee. PUBLIC COMMENTS: Karen Garcia, Allure Dental announced the opening of the dental office. She mentioned she would like to be involved with the cities programs. In addition she would like to promote awareness and importance of dental hygiene. ACTION ITEMS MINUTES On motions by Kurt Allan, seconded by Gail Johnson, the Healthy Hills Steering Committee approved the minutes for the May 16, 2016 meeting. MOTION CARRIED. MORAN, FINKLESTEIN, HOVSEPIAN, LARSON, MOTT, PHELPS, POWDERLY, STILWELL ABSENT. On motions by Bill Taylor, seconded by Bob Goodwin, the Healthy Hills Steering Committee approved the report for the May 16, 2016. MOTION CARRIED. MORAN, FINKLESTEIN, HOVSEPIAN, LARSON, MOTT, PHELPS, POWDERLY, STILWELL ABSENT. On motions by Robert Gannon, seconded by Marggie Royston, the Installation of Lydia Schmidt as a Committee Member. MOTION CARRIED. MORAN, FINKLESTEIN, HOVSEPIAN, LARSON, MOTT, PHELPS, POWDERLY, STILWELL ABSENT. Voting was taken during the meeting for the new theme of Celebrate the Family. Final decision was made which resulted in "The hero in my family". HEALTHY HILLS STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING May 16, 2016 Page 3 DISCUSSION ITEMS SPECIAL EVENTS 1. Kelly Witte reported on a workshop she attended in early April. 2. Jessica Gandara reported on the Strategic planning voting. Gandara distributed a sample -flyer of the handouts that will be the committees focus areas. 3. Gandara informed the committee members the Healthy Hills booth will be at every Concert in the Park this year. She mentioned she would be distributing a sign up for the members to work the booth. PROGRAM REPORTS 1. Gandara discussed future goals for next fiscal year. Gandara distributed a handout of ideas for giveaway items, event ideas, and raffle prizes for future events. COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS Bob Goodwin mentioned about the upcoming June meeting for Department of Toxic Substances Control-AeroJet clean-up. He suggested the committee members attend this meeting because it would be informative. Bill Taylor mentioned the need to have committee members provide public comments at the Park and Recreation Commission meetings. He stated it is very important and beneficial for our members. Taylor asked if the community garden would still be a project for Healthy Hills committee. Gandara stated the community garden is a project but is still gathering information. Taylor added Park and Recreation meeting are on every 3rd Wednesday of the month at 7:OOp.m. at City Hall. Marrgie Royston asked how residents submit ideas for eagle scouts projects. Gandara mentioned if the boys scout group does not have an eagle scouts project they would contact Witte, which would forward their information to the Public Works Department. Gandara also added if they did have a project then Witte would follow up with Public Works to make sure this would be in line with the cities projects. Gail Johnson asked if the Citizen Academy program was still meeting. Witte stated City Manager's office has now taken over that program. Witte mentioned the program had low enrollment and staff made revisions. She stated programs HEALTHY HILLS STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING May 16, 2016 Page 4 that have now taken over are Pop-up Chino Hills and Get the 411. Lydia Schmidt mentioned the idea for hashtags #HHCH. Al Matta mentioned the importance to attend the Department of Toxic Substance Control meeting in June. Peter Roger mentioned ChARTS would be presenting a Artist Series: Jazz and Blues on Saturday, July 9 at the Community Center. He stated Barbara Morrison would be the jazz vocalist for this event. Rogers also mentioned the All the Great Books Abridge: English Class Meets Monty Python event on Friday, July 22. Rogers also NEXT MEETING DATE The next Steering Committee meeting will be Monday, August 8 , 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the Chino Hills Community Center Room A and B, 14250 Peyton Drive, Chino Hills.
