Riverside, CA 92509 ATTENTION: Carlos Vargas Project No. 1459-01 SUBJECT: Report of On -Call Compaction Testing Services During Grading, Proposed Single Family Residence Site, 4726 Fairway Boulevard, Chino Hills, California REFERENCE: Geotechnical International, "Preliminary Geotechnical Investigation for Proposed One -Story Single Family Home at 4726 Fairway Boulevard, Lot 4, Block K, Tract 2567, City of Chino Hills, California", Dated November 26, 2013 (Project No. G1310181). Introduction We have prepared this report containing results of field density and laboratory testing and limitation of work performed during rough grading of the subject pad (refer to Figure 1, Site Location Map). We have utilized a portion of Precise Grading Plan (Sheet 2 of 3), prepared by C.N. & Associates of Aliso Viejo, California, as our Field Density Test Location Map, Plate 1. Summary of Work Performed Excavation and rough grading of the proposed building pad was performed by D'Vargas Construction. Rough grading of the pad was started on May 9, 2014 and completed on May 13, 2014. Observations and testing services were performed on an on-call basis. The building pad was essentially developed in fill -grading. The building pad and at least 5 feet outside the building limit (where practical) were overexcavated at least 3 feet below pad grade. The site overexcavation and recompaction was performed in two sections. The excavated bottom was scarified 6 inches and compacted. Excavation and grading were conducted by a JD 21 OLE skiploader. Water was applied by a water hose. Soils derived from excavation of the site and imported soils mixed with native were utilized for compacted fills. Compacted Fills Fills were placed in 6 -to -8 -inch loose lifts, moisture conditioned, mixed and compacted to a minimum 90 percent of the maximum dry density. Imported soils were used for the upper two feet of fills. A total of 8 field density tests were performed by the Nuclear Gage (ASTM D2922) Method. Laboratory tests and summary of field density test results are presented in Appendix A. Conclusions and Recommendations General Conclusions and recommendations presented in above referenced report remain pertinent and should be used in design and construction. An exception is minimum 4 -inch thick slabs -on -grade should be reinforced with at least No. 3 bars at 18 inches on -centers both ways. Expansion Index Based on observation and classification, the expansion potential of the near surface sandy foundation soils is anticipated to be very low (EI<20). The cement mix/strength for foundation construction should meet the ACI guidelines and recommendations of the structural design engineer. We recommend Type II cement and concrete slump not exceeding 4 inches at the time of placement. Surface Drainage Surface drainage must be directed and maintained away from the foundations. Water, either natural or by irrigation, should not be permitted to pond or saturate the surface soils. Groundwater/Seepage No groundwater and/or seepage were encountered during grading of the site. However, the potential for rain or irrigation water moving along sandy soils and locally seeping through from adjacent areas cannot be precluded. Our experience indicates that surface or near -surface groundwater conditions can develop in areas where groundwater conditions did not exist prior to site development, especially in areas where a substantial increase in surface water infiltration results from landscape irrigation. We therefore recommend that local landscape irrigation and landscape irrigation from surrounding areas be kept to the minimum necessary to maintain plant vigor and that any leaking pipes/sprinklers, etc. should be promptly repaired. We have no way of predicting depth to the groundwater which may fluctuate with seasonal changes and from one year to the next. Subdrains, horizontal drains, down drains, French drains, temporary drains, or other devices may be recommended for graded areas that exhibit future seepage condition. Foundation Plans Review/Additional Observations/Testinq Soil Exploration Co, Inc. should review the foundation plans and observe and/or test at the following stages of construction: • During any additional grading. • Following footing excavations and prior to placement of footings materials. • When any unusual conditions are encountered. However, changes in conditions can occur with the passage of time, due to natural processes or the work of man on this or adjacent properties. Changes in applicable or appropriate standards may also occur whether as a result of legislation, application, or the broadening of knowledge. Therefore, this report is indicative of only those conditions tested at the time testing was performed, and the findings of this report may be invalidated fully or partially by changes outside of the control of Soil Exploration Co. , Inc. This report should not be relied upon after the period of one year or when changes occur. The test results presented herein represent an independent sample of the compaction achieved by the contractor who performed the actual compaction operation. Certain information concerning the depth and location of the buildings and site fills tested was furnished by persons representing themselves as knowledgeable of those conditions. In many cases, independent verification of that information furnished to us by others, or the knowledge of that information by any person representing themselves as knowledgeable, is not possible. That information is relied upon during the performance of these tests. The contractor performing the work on this project remains primarily responsible and liable for the compaction achieved at this project. Compaction testing by our firm in no way relieves the contractor from his obligation to properly perform the work, and this report does not serve as a warranty or guarantee of the contractor's work or of the information supplied to us by the contractor. The results in this report are based upon testing performed and data collected at separate locations, and interpolation between these locations, carried out for the project and the scope of services described. It is assumed and expected that the conditions between locations of tests are similar to those encountered at the individual locations where testing was performed. However, conditions between these locations may vary significantly. Should conditions be encountered in the field, by the client or any firm performing services for the client or the client's assign, which appears different than those described herein, this firm should be contacted immediately in order that we might evaluate their effect. If this report or portions thereof are provided to contractors or included in specifications, it should be understood by all parties that they are provided for information only and should only be used as such. This report and its contents are not intended or represented to be suitable for reuse on extensions or modifications of the project, or for use on any other project. This report was prepared for the client based on client's needs, directions and requirements at the time.
