BACKGROUND/ANALYSIS: Hidden Hills and Sycamore Glen Parks are located in the northwest area of the City. The existing play equipment in both parks is over 15 years old. This is being replaced pursuant to the Public Works programmed replacement schedule. The new equipment is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) requirements. The replacement of these playground structures is included in the approved FY 2011/2012 Capital Outlay Budget for Parks and Landscape. The City standard for playground equipment is Landscape Structure and GameTime brands. Both have proven to be quality products, and are in all new parks, as well as most of the existing parks throughout the City. Staff will procure this equipment through the U.S. Communities Government Purchasing Alliance, which is a cooperative that reduces the cost of goods and services by aggregating the purchasing power of public agencies nationwide. The cost of the equipment through this purchasing alliance reflects an overall discount totaling 22%. The equipment will be shipped in approximately 8 weeks, during which time staff will issue an informal bid request seeking certified playground installation contractors to install these structures. Staff anticipates the replacement to be completed by the end of the calendar year. fig 1/2 AGENDA DATE: OCTOBER 11, 2011 PAGE 2 SUBJECT: PLAY EQUIPMENT PURCHASE — HIDDEN HILLS AND SYCAMORE GLEN PARKS PLAYGROUND REPLACEMENT REVIEW BY OTHERS The Community Service Director, Finance Director, and City Engineer have reviewed this item.
