Public Hearing: ❑ o off Discussion Item: 3' Of ACE OF CITY CLERK Consent Item: ❑ CHINO HILLS May 4, 2010 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS FROM: CITY MANAGER SUBJECT: CHINO HILLS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION FUNDRAISING PROJECT SALE OF DONOR BRICKS FOR CHINO HILLS COMMUNITY CENTER RECOMMENDATION: Approve the request of Chino Hills Community Foundation to sell donor bricks for the Chino Hills Community Center project. BACKGROUND/ANALYSIS: The Chino Hills Community Foundation (CHCF) is embarking upon a fundraising effort to raise money for the Chino Hills Community Center project. The City received $4 million from the County of San Bernardino to assist with the estimated construction cost of$6 million for the project. CHCF would like to sell bricks as one component of their fundraising efforts to help bridge the $2 million gap. As part of the design, standard size bricks will be incorporated along the main walkway areas, courtyards, and patio areas. Attachment A is an example of the bricks to be used for the project. At this time, the architect estimates that approximately 1,000 bricks will be available for the project. It is likely that more bricks will be incorporated as part of the final design. Staff will continue to work with the architect to better gauge and determine a final count available for sale. Attachment B is the preliminary site plan showing the location of the bricks. CHCF proposes to sell the bricks at major City special events. The Foundation has invested in the purchase of a canopy, tables, chairs, and displays to provide information to the public about its mission, goals and purpose and to launch fundraising efforts for the Chino Hills Community Center project.
