Public Hearing: 0 iry oe cnr+o naffs Discussion Item: ❑/ .00 JUN 21 A9:1 Consent Item: P IT`r l_Ff ; June 20, 2000 ; -4ILES TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS FROM: CITY MANAGER SUBJECT: BUTTERFIELD GRAZING LEASE AGREEMENT RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council approve the renewal of a grazing lease agreement with Donna Hart, dba Hart's Livestock, for horse grazing in the Butterfield area. BACKGROUND/ANALYSIS: In April 1994, the City Council approved a grazing lease agreement with Hart's Livestock (A94- 66) that provided for the use of 155 acres within the City's Open Space for the purpose of grazing 30 horses. The 60 -month lease expired last year and the agreement has continued on a month-to-month basis. The City has received $2,500 annually from the grazing lease. The City currently performs weed abatement activities in the Butterfield Open Space. The annual cost savings to the City as a result of placing horses on this site and eliminating manual weed abatement is approximately $6,600. This is the amount for hand crews, equipment, and operational costs. The benefit to the City is in the decreased cost for maintaining the parcel and the improved appearance of the land. REVIEW BY OTHERS: This agenda item has been reviewed by the Finance Director and the City Attorney. FISCAL IMPACT: The proposed renewal would continue to reduce weed abatement costs by approximately $6,600 per year and increase revenue by $2,500. Re ectfully submitted, - te Do la .
